Access Statement for Courtyard Apartment  






Courtyard Apartment is a charming and unique spacious apartment set in an old market town house. The apartment offers one twin bedroom and sleeping for two in the lounge and a cot. The town house is 400 years old and has many quirky features, whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests access may be difficult for people with limited mobility. We are located in a pedestrian area and have rooms at different levels; there are therefore steps up to the apartment and between the rooms. The ceiling in the bedroom is an apex ceiling, so there is limited head room on either side of the room. The apartment is not suitable for a wheelchair.

• The nearest bus stop in Shepton Mallet for National Express is 100 metres from the entrance, frequent local bus services 200 metres from the entrance.

• The nearest airport Bristol International Airport is 18 miles from Shepton Mallet.
• There are accessible taxis at the train station and airport and car hire facilities at the airport.
• There are several local taxi companies; we can make bookings in advance for you.
• We are unable to accommodate dogs or cats.Grooming course dogs on request.
• Brochures and information can be provided in large print if required. We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille.
• The nearest RADAR toilet is next to the police station approx 350 metres from the apartment. There is an additional RADAR toilet in the local park approx 500 metres.



Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that we can be sure we are here to welcome you.
• To ensure your accommodation is ready we ask that guests do not normally arrive before 4.00pm. Earlier arrival may, however, be possible by arrangement.
• We do have off street parking at the rear of the apartment it is 10 metres from the entrance.  
• We offer assistance with luggage
• the apartment is clearly signed at the back of 12 Town Street access down a side alley approx 20 metres.
• The entrance is at the back it has 4 steps. There is no hand rail, the back door is hinged on the right, there is a security keypad to gain access, and the code will be given to you on your arrival.



Main Entrance

• Access to the apartments main door is across the back of the courtyard, there is a flight of outside stairs to gain access to the roof garden.
• The outside staircase is nonslip and there is sensory lights which are activated at the bottom of the steps. There are 4 steps onto a platform and then 7 steps leading on to the roof garden there is a hand rail on the left and the right.
• Approx a 5 metre walk across the roof garden there are paving slabs to walk across. There is a sensory light.
• The door is 80cm wide outwards opening and the keyhole is 80cm high, the door is hinged on the right.
• Inside the front entrance the threshold is 50cm deep 97 cm. wide with a door mat, there is a flight of stairs, 8 steps 18.1cm high, 30cm deep, 97cm wide. There is a hand rail on the right. There is a fire extinguisher at the top of the steps. 



Public Areas - Hall, and Stairs

• the stairs are carpeted with a beige carpet. Above the fire extinguisher is clear emergency signage. At the top of the stairs to the left is a hall way which leads to the other rooms. Each room has a fire door which is heavy and have assisted closers. All doors leading from the corridor are inward opening, each have a 200mm threshold. There is a smoke detector in the hall way which is radio linked to each room. The shower room is on the left, the living room is to the right, at the far end on the left is the kitchen dining room door  The hall way has 2 steps mid- way. The bedroom leads off at the end of the hallway up a steep carpeted spiral staircase. (Please see section “Bedroom" for more information)
• Decor is contrasting with skirting's and doors (darker skirting and lighter walls)



Public Areas - Sitting room.

• Living area:
• The door is 85cm wide inwards opening; it is a fire door so is heavy and has an assisted closer.
• There is a threshold of 200mm when entering the living room.
• Decor is contrasting with skirting's and doors (darker skirting and lighter walls) carpet is beige.
• The living room has one single leather armchair and one leather sofa this can be pulled out into a bed. The living room is not large enough to accommodate any additional seating. There is adequate natural lighting in the day time in the evening there is a combination of ceiling lighting,a standard  floor light fitting and a table lamp. There is a small double stacking table by the window. There is a television with teletext and a remote control, DVD player with DVDs and a radio/CD player. There is a chest of drawers on the right wall as you enter the room, there is a sewing kit, games, telephone books CD's and books. There is a stone open fire place with slate hearth however it is non operational, the flue is blocked. The apartment is centrally heated through out with thermostatic control in every room to suit individual requirements.

• Dining Room is open plan with kitchen( please see section "Self catering kitchen " for more information.)




• There is no separate laundry but there is a standard front loading washing machine provided in the kitchen dining room.
• Instructions in blue welcome folder, large print available on request.
• Wash basket, airier, iron, ironing board and pegs available.
• Tumble drier hire available.




• The apartment is situated in a town house with an assortment of shops in close proximity.

 Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

• Door is inward opening, door width 85cm 
• Beige carpet.
• Two twin beds provided.
• Bed height 48cm floor to mattress.
• Non feather duvets and pillows provided.
• Sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases are cotton.
• Beds are movable if more space is required to one side.
• Limited head room to the sides of the room due to apex ceiling, large beams on both sides.
• There is a walk in wardrobe, bedside table and built in dressing table with chair. There is a hairdryer and alarm clock.
• Natural lighting during the day, evening bedside table light and ceiling light.
• Decor is contrasting with darker skirting and lighter walls.
• Landing outside bedroom, steep spiral staircase hand rail on the right going down.
• Sofa bed in living room with the same cotton linen & non feather pillows and duvets
• When made up access is limited in the living room, a double made up bed .



Shower-room & WC

• Tiled flooring
• Compact room, shower cubicle with electric shower thermostatically controlled



 Glazed cubicle right hinged shower door outward opening.
• Toilet elevated
• Good colour contrast between floor, walls and skirting
• Basin has a pedestal



Self-Catering Kitchen

• Kitchen open plan with dining room, door from hallway 79cm
• Work top height 90cm.
• cooker is free standing oven door is drop down integral grill
• Sink is 88cm high with cupboards underneath. Tap is levered.
• Hob is 90 cm high and halogen
• Flooring is laminated.
• Very light and airy room large east facing windows plenty of natural light
• evenly lit kitchen with spotlights above work surfaces where required.
• Good contrast between floor, cupboards and other surfaces.
• Fridge with small freezer available, highest shelf in fridge 87cm.
• Microwave on work surface 90 cm high also toaster on work surface 90 cm high
• Washing machine front loading standard size next to sink.






Grounds and Gardens

• At the entrance to the apartment there is outside dining furniture guest are welcome to use the facilities.                     
• There are wooden seats and table with a sun shade.



Additional Information

• There is a fire extinguisher in the hall way and one also in the kitchen, there is also a fire blanket in the kitchen.
• In the event of a fire there is an emergency procedure posted on the back of each door. The apartment is evacuated via the main door. Please let us know if you are unlikely to hear the smoke detectors
• Refuge area at the back gate outside to the right of the steps.
• We do not permit smoking in the apartment, guest are welcome to smoke outside an ash tray can be provided.
• Mobile phone reception is good.
• Dogs are welcome on request a charge of £25 per pet ( max 2 pets)
• Local & general information is provided in a blue folder in the kitchen.
